Action Bits: Our Story

After more than fifteen years of running the gamut between exciting startups and some of Silicon Valley's largest computer companies, Lynne Thieme and Celeste Tillson decided to try calling the shots with their own business. They wanted to use their collective talents and technology expertise to show kids across the country and around the world, how technology could help them learn more and go further. They were determined to empower kids with the knowledge, skills, and enthusiasm to make the world a better place, so they founded Action Bits for Kids.

Today, Action Bits for Kids is a fun resource for teachers, educators, parents, and, of course, kids. Action Bits brings fun to learning through technology and shows kids how technology can help them do better in school, at home, and in real life. The Action Bits web site is an active destination for kids using Lynne's Library or taking a fun break with Just for Kids and speaks to anyone who is interested in empowering our kids and making the world a better place for the next generation.

More About Lynne

Lynne is most proud of her kids, but she is also proud of her work in the technology industry, in the educational community, and for non-profit organizations. Lynne’s resume is filled with top names in the technology world, including IBM, Oracle, and, currently, NetApp. Lynne is a designer and developer of computer software who is equally at home writing code or discussing ideas in the boardroom. She was born and raised in Illinois and did undergraduate work in computer science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and graduate studies at Stanford University. She received her California Teaching Credential from San Jose State University. Lynne lives in Northern California with her husband, son, daughter, and two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.

In the classroom, Lynne is "dedicated to creating a community of lifelong learners" by asking her students to do meaningful work based on curriculum standards and giving them autonomy over their learning experiences. "I want to create collaborative learning environments—networks of school, home, and community resources—where all students feel safe to discover knowledge independently rather than simply learning about it."

More About Celeste

Celeste Tillson was been a writer even before she chose it as a profession. As a technical writer, Celeste started her career writing computer user manuals for novice users—explaining how to insert disks into drives and save files. Her career includes stints with computer industry leaders including Software Publishing, Adobe, Sun Microsystems, and Oracle. Through her company, A&M Writing and Publishing, Celeste has recently published a trilogy of mystery books for middle-graders; she delights in hearing how her young audience receives her work. "They are a tough audience," she confesses. "They keep track of what’s going on and they keep you honest. Sometimes the kids seem to know my stories better than I do. I love writing for them."

Celeste grew up in North Carolina and has never completely left home. She did her undergraduate work at St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, North Carolina and received an MA from San Jose State University. She has Community College and Emergency Teaching Credentials from the State of California. Celeste lives in Northern California with her son and a contrary Brittany Spaniel.
